Public affairs for health and life sciences
Access to therapies is a reimbursement question before it is a medical one.
Public affairs for pharma, medical technology, diagnostics and healthcare providers between authorisation, reimbursement and public debate.
Starting point
A product can be authorised and medically superior and still not reach patients. In Austria the reimbursement process decides that, and it is an interplay of social insurance, the ministry, medical societies and public perception.
At the same time the European level is reordering the frame: the pharmaceutical package, joint health technology assessment and the European Health Data Space all reach into authorisation and market access strategies.
Communication in this field is particularly delicate. It has to be technically precise, legally permissible and socially connectable at once. We therefore work closely with our clients’ regulatory and medical teams.

Frequently asked
How does medicine reimbursement work in Austria?
The reimbursement code of the umbrella association of social insurance institutions sets out which medicines are covered by health insurance and on what terms. Inclusion follows a formal procedure with pharmacological, medical-therapeutic and health economic assessment.
Is lobbying permitted in the health sector?
Yes, within the Lobbying and Interest Representation Transparency Act and the sector’s own codes of conduct. What matters is transparency about the client, the separation of promotion from information, and compliance with advertising restrictions in medicines law.
What does public affairs contribute ahead of a launch?
It clarifies the environment before authorisation arrives: which medical societies and patient organisations matter, which care gap is politically recognised, which arguments carry in the reimbursement procedure. That groundwork cannot be made up after approval.
